The 2003 Topps Chrome set features one of the best NBA draft classes of all-time, headlined by the NBA's all-time leading scorer! Highlighted by rookie cards of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony, cards from this set can be very valuable.
A total of 165 cards complete the set, 166 if you count the unnumbered checklist. Veteran players are found on cards 1-110 and the rookie class in in the final 55 cards. Variations are plentiful including:
An autograph insert set titled Chromographs consist of 12 players. Big names here are rookies Dwyane Wade and Carmelo Anthony, as well as Hall of Famers Shaquille O'Neal and Ray Allen.
Each box of Chrome came with 24 packs and 4 cards per pack. The odds of pulling a refractor card are 1 in every 2 packs, providing 12 refractors per box! The cost of a sealed box today is about $20,000! Is the juice worth the squeeze? Let's look at the key rookie cards and their respective values.

James is taking a jumper over Ben Wallace of the Pistons in this card. The Iconic Topps logo in the center, sandwiched by the year of the card. LeBron has done it ALL on the court. "King James" is the all-time leading scorer, won 4 NBA Championships, and was named league MVP 4 times.
Here is the breakdown of top-graded LeBron James cards graded by PSA as well as recent sales:
The GOLD refractor is the rarest and most valuable card with the top sale being over one million dollars! The base card (non-refractor) in mid-grade is more affordable; you can add a PSA 5 to your collection for about $800.

Wade, another Hall of Famer with a page-full of credentials was a rookie in 2003. The three-time NBA champion made 13 All-Star games, and was both a Finals MVP and an All-Star Game MVP.
Here is the breakdown of top-graded Dwyane Wade cards graded by PSA as well as recent sales:
As you can see, the value of Wade's cards compared to James' are not even close! The difference between a PSA 10 refractor value is around $45,000! Wade does have X-Fractor, Gold Refractor, and Black Refractor cards, but while each ARE valuable, none match the command of LeBron James'. Wade's Black Refractor is top right. What an AWESOME image; he's got the ball in his right hand, mid-air, for a beautiful action shot.
A ten-time All-Star, three-time Olympic Gold medalist, and Hall of Famer, Carmelo Anthony also has valuable cards in the set!
Here is the breakdown of top-graded Carmelo Anthony cards graded by PSA as well as recent sales:
Despite being an all-time great, Anthony's card values are even less than that of Wade's. Like Wade, Anthony does have X-Fractor, Gold Refractor, and Black Refractor cards which can be more valuable than the base and Refractor cards. Anthony's Black Refractor card is above to the left of Wade's. The prolific scorer is taking a shot as he's double-teamed in his rookie card!
James, Wade, and Anthony often steal the spotlight in this set, but there are other key rookies and Hall of Famers in the set. Here are a few other stars:

Of those cards, the Kobe is pretty valuable with a PSA 10 Refractor valued at about $1,825.00. The rare GOLD Refractor in a grade of PSA 10 was last sold for $79,407.00. Kobe is throwing down a dunk in his #8 jersey on his card above.
